Primary 3/4

Dear Primary Community,

It is my pleasure to welcome back all of our returning children and families and extend a warm welcome to all of our new children and families to the most exciting school year of all times!!

For those of you who do not know me, Hi! My name is Zareena. I grew up in India where I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Home Science with dreams of becoming an interior designer. However, during the course of my study, I fell in love with early childhood education and developed a passion for the Montessori Method. Then, I proceeded to pursue a Master's Degree in Human Development to deepen my knowledge of child growth and development. The grad school experience exposed me to different methods of education and strengthened my belief in the Montessori philosophy of ‘educating the whole child'.

In 2006, I left India for my AMI Primary (3 to 6) training from the Washington Montessori Institute and acquired my second Master's in Montessori Education at Loyola University of Maryland. I have been an AMI Primary Guide for 13 consecutive years in Maryland, California, and Colorado. I have also held positions such as Assistants Training Coordinator and Primary Program Director through the course of my career.

My goal for this school year is to establish meaningful connections with all the children and families and ensure that the children feel safe, loved, and respected in a clean & healthy classroom environment. It is important to me that the children develop empathy, adaptability, and intellectual agility to establish a harmonious community for all.

The first few weeks of school, we will be focusing on the children learning new health & safety procedures; wearing masks in common areas; wearing face shields in the classroom; getting used to the routines; developing independence and learning to use their freedoms within the limits provided. Maria Montessori understood that in order to be free, one needs to be independent. However, with independence comes the need for self-discipline. In the prepared environment, the Montessori child moving toward independence will experience making decisions from limited choices, and will meet with success in those decisions. This success helps them exercise their independence with respect for their community, with self-discipline.

In order for the children to have a smooth transition into the school year, we have scheduled mandatory classroom visits on August 19th and 20th for all the children to meet the staff, and get accustomed to the classroom environment and the new procedures. Please note that this visit is for children only, parents/guardians may use the one-way mirror to observe or use this time to ensure registration is complete and they are all set up with the new tuition payment system. Kindly use this link to sign-up for the visits.

Looking forward to connecting with you!

Warmly,
Ms. Zareena
