About Kat

My name is Ms. Kat and I will be your guide this year. I am so thrilled to begin the school year and get to know you more, even if we are remote! We will be learning so many exciting things this year and diving in to some interesting projects! We will be spending a lot of time together this year, so it is important that we treat each other with respect and compassion. Also, we will all play a role in creating a classroom community that is full of joy, learning, and connection, whether we are at home or at school.

This is my second year teaching at Great Work Montessori, so I am thankful to know many of you already! I am excited to teach all subjects, but I especially love science and math. I studied Biology in college and I am fascinated with all the incredible living things that inhabit our planet. I also LOVE learning new things, so I am excited to see what interesting topics you will choose to research this year.

I hope you had a wonderful summer and I look forward to seeing you on the first day of school!

Kat considers herself a Colorado native, as she has lived here since age 5 and has no plans to leave! She has many interests and has a dynamic work and academic history, although her work has always included children. Kat received her Bachelor's degree in Biology and an Elementary teaching license before working with adolescents as a counselor and in education as an ESL teacher. Following her experiences in traditional education, Kat was called to go back to school to receive her elementary Montessori training and masters. She completed her elementary training in Maryland at WMI and taught lower elementary last year at Great Work. She is thrilled to be working at Great Work again this year and looks forward to guiding the 3rd graders through a school year of learning, growth, and joy.

Kat has many interests outside of work, many of which involve food. She loves to cook, grow food, eat, you name it! Kat also has a passion for traveling and has spent months in South America, India, and Thailand. Her favorite part of Colorado is the mountains, where she frequents the mountain biking trails, campsites, and ski slopes. She also recently got a canoe, and loves to get out on the water whenever possible. Overall, Kat has many interests and hopes to utilize them to inspire the children she works with.
