Great Work Montessori is inclusive of all children as part of an effort to integrate all people into a community of compassionate understanding. Children will be surrounded with fellows of diverse backgrounds and abilities, preparing them to actualize a global community of similar values. Accommodations include specialized practices for gifted/talented children, children with special needs, English language learners and restorative practices.
Gifted/Talented—In 2nd grade, GWMS affords interested families the opportunity to participate in the district-selected CogAT assessment, intended to estimate students' learned reasoning and problem-solving abilities through a battery of verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal test items.
English Language Learners—The ACCESS for ELLs assessment measures a student's English language proficiency. ACCESS for ELLs is given annually to kindergarten through twelfth-graders who have been identified as English Language Learners (ELLs) who are Non-English or Limited-English proficient. It provides educators and families proficiency levels and information that is used to enhance instruction and learning for ELL students in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
SPED—GWMS is an inclusive community. Our staff includes licensed Special Education teachers to support students with special needs and ensure their academic success. Recognizing that individual differences exist among children, we offer accommodations to our students. These services are designed to help each child fulfill their individual potential. Instruction occurs primarily in an inclusive Montessori setting, which balances Montessori methodology with an increased focus on direct instruction.
